    Typisk norsk

    Typisk norsk is a news and magazine program about language and communication produced by Dropout Productions and Rubicon TV for NRK. Three seasons of the program have been produced. The concept is inspired by the SVT-produced series Värsta språket with Fredrik Lindström as the host.

    Petter Schjerven is the host of Typisk norsk. Among other things, the program covers interesting topics in language and communication. It also deals with language enthusiasts and researchers and discusses problems with the Norwegian language.

    Typisk norsk won the Gullrute award in 2005 for Best culture or magazine program and Best male host. In 2006, the editors of the program received Den Store Journalistprisen.

    In 2005, Schjerven presented the new letter “Kjell” on his program, a letter to prevent the kj sound from being replaced by sj and disappearing from the language.

    Frank Tagliano (Steven Van Zandt), is a former member of the New York mob. After testifying in a trial in the United States, Tagliano is relocated to Lillehammer in Norway through the FBI’s witness protection program. Frank Tagliano was intrigued by Lillehammer when he saw television images of the Winter Olympics in 1994, and therefore chooses to start his new life there. The transition from being a feared and respected gangster in New York, to become an unemployed immigrant in Norway, is not simple. Frank discovers that to get up and in the Norwegian rural society, he must resort to the old, ruthless methods.

    The spelling of the series title alludes to Tagliano’s dog Lily, and the way that Frank and some other anglophones pronounce the town’s name.
