    The story begins in April 1986 and is set during the days of the bubble economy. Kaidou Akira comes from a wealthy background and is the heir of a large company Tokai Yuusen. On the other hand, his genius classmate from the University of Tokyo, Yamazaki Akira had a tough life due to the bankruptcy of his father’s company and having to run away from creditors but overcomes the odds to graduatefrom the top-notch school. The two are employed at the same bank and get caught in a battle lasting over 10 years which causes upheavals in their lives.

    An incident is talked about all over Japan. The case involves the Doizaki couple that killed their 15-year-old daughter and hid her body under their house for 16 years.

    One day, housewife Toshiko Hagitani visits Shigeko Maehata who works for a small editing company. Toshiko tells Shigeko that her 12-year-old son Hitoshi might have a special ability to see other people’s memories. She pulls out a picture drawn by Hitoshi. The picture has a girl with a grey colored face lying in a house that has a bat shaped weather vane on its roof. The picture seems to depict the incident involving the Doizaki couple. Shigeko decides to do some research, but Hitoshi dies in a car accident.

    Meanwhile, the attorney for the Doizaki couple tells their second daughter Seiko that the couple has cut off all ties with her. Around that time, a female high student is confined.

    Former elementary school teacher and detective, Kurasawa Itsuki (Nakatani Miki), has a history with Kishi Ruoto (Kikuchi Fuma). At the age of 12 and her 6th grade student, Kishi murdered Kurasawa’s daughter. The young age of the murderer caused the bizarre murder case to send shockwaves throughout Japan. Kurasawa experienced despair and quit her job as a teacher to become a detective with the desire of “saving as many people as possible from suffering like I did”.

    Driven by her strong conviction, Kurasawa spends 12 years working hard to solve cases before learning that Kishi is to be discharged from a medical reformatory just before the anniversary of her daughter’s death. One day, she receives a text message from the supposedly “completely rehabilitated” Kishi promising to “take away your precious things once again”. This was the beginning of a new incident that would shock all of Japan again.
