The Virgin Queen
PKR 200The Virgin Queen is a 2005 BBC and Power co-production, four-part miniseries based upon the life of Queen Elizabeth I, starring Anne-Marie Duff. As a drama, it focused heavily on Elizabeth’s private life – particularly her relationship with Robert Dudley, and explored the politics of her reign in rather less depth.
It was originally intended to air first on the BBC in September 2005, but as the date would have coincided with the release of the Channel 4 two-part mini Elizabeth I, it was decided to delay the BBC release until January 2006, two months after the US opening in November 2005 on PBS’ Masterpiece Theatre. Ewen Bremner appeared in both productions.
Despite being a biopic of Elizabeth’s life and reign, the series presented its main character with particular interest in several themes, most notably the emotional impact of her mother’s execution and her love for Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester.
The drama played up the ambiguity of Elizabeth’s virginity, featuring a scene where Elizabeth fantasizes about making love to Dudley. However, Anne-Marie Duff later stated that the director and scriptwriter explicitly told her to play the queen as a lifelong virgin.

Colditz
PKR 100Colditz — sometimes mistakenly referred to by its working title Escape from Colditz — is a 2005 British two-part television film produced by Granada Television for ITV, written by Peter Morgan and directed by Stuart Orme. Part one initially screened on that network on 27 March 2005. In 2006, it won the BAFTA Television Craft Award for best sound design in a fiction or entertainment.
It is based on two sources named by the end credits: Henry Chancellor’s book Colditz and the Channel Four television series, Escape from Colditz. It is not claimed to be historically accurate.
It tells the several stories of various, mostly British, prisoners of war in World War II and their attempts to escape Colditz.
As of November 2010, Colditz has been released on DVD and Blu-ray in Region 1 and on DVD in Region 2.

Oliver Twist
PKR 200Oliver Twist is a 2007 British television adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel Oliver Twist, written by Sarah Phelps and directed by Coky Giedroyc. It consists of five episodes, broadcast on BBC One from 18 to 22 December 2007. It aired on PBS’ Masterpiece Classic in the United States on 15 and 22 February 2009, in two ninety-minute installments. In Australia, ABC1 also opted to air this series as a two-part special each Sunday at 8:30 pm from 20 December 2009.
