    Yancy Derringer

Yancy Derringer is an American Western series that ran on CBS from 1958 to 1959, with Jock Mahoney in the title role. The show was produced by Derringer Productions and filmed in Hollywood by Desilu Productions. Derringer Productions consisted of half interest for Warren Lewis and Don Sharpe as executive producers, and a quarter interest to Jock Mahoney for starring in the series, and a quarter interest to Richard Sale and Mary Loos, husband and wife, as creators. Desilu had just completed the 1956 series The Adventures of Jim Bowie which was also mostly set in New Orleans. The show’s sponsor was Johnson Wax, now S. C. Johnson, and CLEAR floorwax was a regular sponsor.

The Sales based the series on a 1938 short story that Richard Sale had written. In the 1930s, Sale was one of the highest paid pulp writers. Which story was never mentioned, but it was about a destitute aristocrat and troublemaker who returns to New Orleans three years after the Civil War. In the story, Derringer has no first name; “Yancy” was added for the TV series.

    Secret Squirrel

Secret Squirrel is a funny animal cartoon character created by Hanna-Barbera, and also the name of his segment in the The Atom Ant/Secret Squirrel Show, which debuted in 1965. He was given his own show in 1966, but was reunited with Atom Ant for one more season in 1967. Secret first appeared in a prime-time animated special called The World of Atom Ant and Secret Squirrel, which aired on NBC on September 12, 1965.

The Secret Squirrel half-hours included three individual cartoon segments: “Secret Squirrel,” “Squiddly Diddly,” and “Winsome Witch.” Secret Squirrel’s shorts were a parody of the then-popular spy genre, with most of his shorts’ elements satirizing those of the James Bond films. Secret Squirrel was also known as “Agent 000”. Beginning in 1993, thirteen new Secret Squirrel cartoons appeared in between the 2 Stupid Dogs episodes, with the updated title, Super Secret Secret Squirrel and a new cast. As of September 5, 2011, episode reruns returned on Boomerang from Cartoon Network.

    A Man Called Sloane

A Man Called Sloane is an American secret agent adventure television series that aired on NBC during the 1979-1980 television season. It was a Woodruff Production in association with QM Productions, and became the final series produced by Quinn Martin’s company to debut.

The series starred Robert Conrad as Thomas R. Sloane III, a freelance spy who takes on occasional assignments for UNIT, a secret American intelligence operation run by “The Director,” played by Dan O’Herlihy. The secret entrance to UNIT headquarters was through a toy store. KARTEL was the evil secret organization that was UNIT’s nemesis. Aiding Sloane’s missions was Torque, his deadly right-hand man played by Ji-Tu Cumbuka. Torque had a mechanical hand with interchangeable parts that often helped during their assignments. The pair were also assisted by “Effie”, a computer voiced by Michele Carey.

A Man Called Sloane was an amalgam of elements from numerous spy series of the previous 15 years, including The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mission: Impossible, and Conrad’s own The Wild Wild West. One of the more expensive series produced during the season, it failed to gain an audience and was cancelled after 12 episodes were broadcast.
