The Lion (1962)

While her stepfather believes this is a wonderful environment for her to grow up in, her mother becomes increasingly concerned by her behaviour. These concerns are reinforced when it is revealed that her daughter’s best friend in the whole world is a fully grown lion. Worried that her daughter may be turning into a savage, she sends for her former husband, Tina’s biological father, in the hope that he can take her back to civilization (in this case rural Connecticut). But it seems as though Tina’s mother wants something more than a civilized upbringing for her daughter.

The Story of Ruth (1960)

When Elimelech and sons Mahlon and Chillion die, leaving Naomi a widow with two widowed daughters-in-law, Naomi decides to return to Israel. One daughter-in-law, Orpah, bids her goodbye. Daughter-in-law Ruth however says she will not desert her. She’s going to give up the life and culture of Moab and her people will be Naomi’s people in the most famous line from the Book of Ruth.

Her nickname for him, “Daddy Long Legs”, is taken from the description of him given to Andre by some of her fellow orphans who see his shadow as he leaves their building. Several years later, he visits her at school, still concealing his identity. Despite their large age difference, they soon fall in love.
