    Pink Lady’s Motion Picture (1978)

    An awkward attempt to build a movie around Pink Lady, the name given to a Japanese pop music duo consisting of the very pretty short-haired Mie and the long-haired Kei. Their popularity in Japan lasted from 1976 to 1979 before their attempt to break into the American market with the ill-fated TV show, “Pink Lady and Jeff” (1980), which wound up setting back the cause of J-pop in America by nearly 30 years. Pink Lady they gained a certain amount of attention from the sexy disco-inspired outfits they wore in concert, generally featuring shiny scanty tops, tight hot pants and gold or silver boots, seen to good advantage in some segments of the movie. This musical features the Pink Ladies as circus performers who show kindness toward a captured “monster,” a sad, furry being (played by a man in a bulky, over-sized pink acrylic costume) who suffers acts of unusual cruelty by the keeper and ringmaster before the girls escape with the creature in a circus trailer.

The movie served as Universal Music Japan’s second movie in the Japanese movie market, following the success of its first offering, the action film “Run 60”. This cheerleading movie starring 11 idols called, ‘Cheerfu11y’. The movie stars Kikkawa Yuu and ex-Momoiro Clover member Hayami Akari. Alongside them are Passpo☆ members Tamai Anna, Anzai Naomi, Sakuma Kaho, and Mori Shiori. ‘Up-Up Girls’ Furukawa Kontasu and Mori Saki will join them, along with Akiyama Yurika and Goto Yuki from ‘THE Possible’, and Niwa Mikiho from ‘Canary Club’.

    Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi

    Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi is an American-Japanese animated fantasy-comedy television series from Cartoon Network and TV Tokyo, produced by Renegade Animation and Cartoon Network Studios in Japan. The show was created by Sam Register, who also serves as the series’ executive producer.

    According to Register, the target audience of the show is boys and girls from six to eleven years old. However, the show also has a following of fans of the real-life Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura who make up the Japanese pop duo PUFFY, known as “Puffy AmiYumi” in North America. Register, a fan of the band, wished to spread its fame to other parts of the world and thus produced the cartoon.

    The series features the adventures of animated versions of the duo, who have been immensely popular in Japan since making their debut in 1996. The group now has its own U.S. albums, including a 2004 companion album to this program, and was known to viewers of Cartoon Network in the USA for performing the theme to the Teen Titans animated series.
