    The Keith Barret Show is a spoof BBC chat show hosted by Keith Barret who interviews celebrity couples in the hope of finding the secret to a successful marriage. It was devised by Paul Duddridge and co written with Rob Brydon. In each programme, there are a selection of clips from venues such as speed dating or interviews with relationship experts.

    Rob Brydon’s character Keith first appeared on TV in the cult comedy series Marion and Geoff where, for most of the first series, he was oblivious to the affair between the title characters.

    This was not the first BBC interview programme to be hosted by a fictional character – Brydon’s close collaborator, Steve Coogan used the character of Alan Partridge with much more disastrous on-screen effects several years earlier.

    Dr. Terrible’s House of Horrible is an English comedy-horror anthology series created by Graham Duff, who co-wrote the series with Steve Coogan. BBC Two broadcast the series in 2001.

    Dr. Terrible’s House of Horrible spoofs the British horror films of Amicus Productions, Hammer Film Productions, and Tigon British Film Productions. The title parodies Amicus Productions’ anthology film Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors.

    Horror film veterans Honor Blackman, Graham Crowden, Sheila Keith, and Angela Pleasence each guest-starred in an episode, in a pastiche of their earlier film performances. Mark Gatiss, John Thomson, Simon Pegg, Ronni Ancona, and Warwick Davis also performed in the series.

    Steve Coogan presents each episode as Dr. Terrible, and plays various roles throughout.

    Viewership of the six-episode series fell short of expectations, and the BBC declined to recommission it. 2 Entertain published it to DVD-Video on 4 August 2003.

    I’m Alan Partridge is a BBC situation comedy starring Steve Coogan, of which two series of six episodes each were produced — the first in 1997 and the second in 2002. The series followed the titular Alan Partridge, a failed television presenter whose previous exploits had featured in the chat-show parody Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge, and who is now presenting a programme on local radio in Norwich.

    Both series were written by Peter Baynham, Coogan and Armando Iannucci; supporting Coogan were Felicity Montagu as his faithful, mouse-like personal assistant, Lynn Benfield; Simon Greenall as Geordie Travel Tavern handyman/BP garage attendant Michael; and Phil Cornwell as disc jockey Dave Clifton.

    It has been well received by both critics and fans, and was nominated for three BAFTAs, two British Comedy Award, and a Royal Television Society award.

    Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge

    Mid Morning Matters is a British mockumentary series written by Steve Coogan, Neil Gibbons, Rob Gibbons and Armando Iannucci, produced by Baby Cow Productions and funded by the British arm of Australian lager company Foster’s, starring Coogan as fictional radio DJ Alan Partridge. The first of twelve 15-minute episodes was uploaded to the Foster’s Funny website on 5 November 2010, and then available on YouTube. Six 30-minute episodes titled Alan Partridge Mid Morning Matters: Special Edition, edited from the web series, began airing on Sky Atlantic HD in July 2012 as part of a deal between producers Baby Cow and BSkyB. Mid Morning Matters 2 began filming a new six part series in February 2012. It will be shown exclusively on Sky Atlantic in 2013.

    Cruise of the Gods

    Cruise of the Gods was a one-off comedy/drama produced by Baby Cow Productions for the BBC. It starred Rob Brydon, Steve Coogan, David Walliams and James Corden. It aired in 2002 and has since been released on BBC DVD.

    Written by Tim Firth, with additional material by Michael Marshall Smith and Peter Baynham, it told the story of a fan cruise held in honour of The Children of Castor, a fictitious 1980s post-apocalyptic sci-fi TV series, starring Andy Van Allen and Nick Lee. Twenty years after the show’s cancellation, Van Allen is the reluctant special guest on the fan cruise. For Van Allen, The Children of Castor was the height of his fame, whilst Lee went on to bigger and better things, currently Sherlock Holmes in Miami.

    Brian Conley and Jack Jones made cameo appearances as themselves.

The series was edited into a feature film which premiered at the Toronto International Film festival in September 2010 and was released in the US by IFC Films in 2011.

    Human Remains

    Human Remains is a British black comedy television series written by and starring Rob Brydon and Julia Davis. It consisted of six episodes that aired in 2000. Each episode documented the relationship of a different couple, all of whom were played by Brydon and Davis and all but two of whom were extremely unhappy, in the style of a fly on the wall documentary. In 2009, The Guardian called it “one of the best comedies in the past ten years”.

    Much of the show’s humour is derived from very bleak ideas and situations. Domestic violence, chronic depression and death all feature prominently throughout the six episodes. Julia Davis later used some of these themes in her solo project, Nighty Night. Ruth Jones, who would later work with Davis in Nighty Night, appears in the third episode. She would later co-write the acclaimed series Gavin and Stacey, in which both Brydon and Davis would star.

    The Sketch Show is a British television sketch comedy programme, featuring many leading British comedians. It aired on ITV between 2001 and 2004. Despite the first series winning a BAFTA award, the second series was cancelled due to poor viewing figures. Lee Mack states in his autobrography “Mack The Life” that the final two episodes have never been broadcast.

    A short-lived spinoff of the same title was produced in the United States. Similarly to the UK version, the final two episodes were never broadcast.

    Marion and Geoff

    Marion and Geoff is a BBC television mockumentary, produced by Baby Cow Productions and screened on BBC Two in 2000, with a second series following in 2003. The series starred Rob Brydon as Keith Barret, a naïve taxicab driver going through a messy divorce from his wife, Marion, who, though he fails to realise it, has had a long-standing affair with her work colleague, Geoff. Each episode is presented as a monologue, filmed by a fixed camera in the confines of his cab.

    The series were written by Brydon and Hugo Blick, and produced and directed by Blick. The associate producer was Steve Coogan.

    The script is written in such a way that the viewer can pick up on clues that Keith has not himself deciphered. Numerous references are made to one of “his” children not resembling him very strongly, an obvious hint that one of the children he loves so dearly is not his own, but in fact Geoff’s. Keith also gives clues in the first series about his wife’s activities—the viewer knows about Marion’s affair long before he works it out himself.

    Keith’s character is affectionately portrayed as a harmless simpleton and draws a great deal of sympathy as the series progresses. He is in denial about his divorce, and somehow always manages to look on the positive side of even the most depressing situation. Although he doesn’t realise it, his life revolves around Marion and her new partner Geoff, and his love for his “little smashers”. Despite his faults, Keith is an honest and kind man.
