    The Beechgrove Garden

    The Beechgrove Garden is a television programme originally broadcast from 1978 on BBC Two Scotland and, since 10 April 2007, on BBC One Scotland. It is a gardening programme. The original plot of land used was the small area of garden attached to the BBC studios in Beechgrove Terrace, Aberdeen. Due to its small size, the programme’s popularity and the fact the garden had been transformed several times over, a new area of ground to the west of Aberdeen was acquired for the programme.

    The original presenters on the programme included Dick Gardiner, Jim McColl and George Barron. Barron retired in the 1980s and was replaced by Carole Baxter. As of 2010 McColl and Baxter still present the show, joined by Carolyn Spray and Lesley Watson. Other regular contributors include George Anderson, and the BBC Scotland weather presenters Heather Reid, Gail McGrane and Peter Sloss, who present forecasts on the show.

    A sister programme, The Beechgrove Potting Shed, is broadcast weekly on BBC Radio Scotland, presented by Theresa Talbot.

    The theme tune for the show is the jig “Miss Tara MacAdam”.

    The show was once parodied in the BBC Scotland comedy sketch show Scotch and Wry, with Rikki Fulton as George Barron and Gregor Fisher as Jim McColl “growing” whisky.

The title is a misspelled version of “Władcy much” meaning “The Lords of Flies” and derives from William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies. The plot of the story revolves around four 8-year-old boys in the second grade of elementary school: Anusiak, Konieczko, Maślana, and Czesio. The director and writer of the show is Bartek Kędzierski. He also dubs one of characters – Czesio. The show has a total of 127 regular and 2 special episodes. An entire movie that features the four boys has also been made. The Comedy won Świry 2008 award in category “TV Series”.

    Rough Science

    Rough Science is a British documentary reality television series made by the BBC in collaboration with the Open University. Six series were made between 2000 and 2005. It was broadcast in prime time on BBC Two and is considered something of a “break-out hit” for the Open University. Rough Science was first shown in 2000.

    The series’ formula consists of a group of four or five scientists with specialities in different fields who are given a task that they must complete using the natural resources of the surrounding area together with a small set of supplies. Each programme features a different task and follows the scientists as they use their knowledge and ingenuity in attempting to fulfil it and, in the process, educate the viewing public — despite failure being common.

    Each episode either requires the team to work together in smaller groups to create requirements for the overall challenge, for the small groups to fulfil vaguely related challenges or even to complete the same task in competition. It has been set in a different scenic location each series, typically somewhere with plenty of plants for use by the group. The presenter is Kate Humble and groups of scientists — most of the scientists appear in several series.

The show was known for its opening titles, which consisted of a hand drawing the symbols “♂, ♀, ✳, †, ∞” on a chalkboard, as cast member Sam Jaffe intoned, “Man, woman, birth, death, infinity.” Neurosurgeon Joseph Ransohoff was a medical consultant for the show and may have influenced the personality of the title character.

    La Hora Chanante

    La Hora Chanante is a Spanish comedy television show aired through the cable/satellite local version of the Paramount Comedy channel. Each episode is a half hour long and consists of a series of unrelated sketches and a story featuring some celebrity which helps keep continuity throughout the program. Episodes used to be released on a monthly basis until 2006, when the show was discontinued. However, reruns are aired frequently through Paramount Comedy as well as Localia, and in December 2007, Paramount Comedy Spain and Universal Pictures launched a pack of two DVDs with the best moments of “La Hora Chanante” and some extras, an unreleased, deleted scenes, stickers and a comic drawn by Joaquín Reyes.

    It was created and directed by comedian from Albacete Joaquín Reyes, who also played the celebrities portrayed in each episode, thus serving as a show host. Many of the show’s cutscenes were drawn by Lalo Kubala and Carlos Areces, both known for their work in the Spanish satire magazine El Jueves.

    The staff responsible for La Hora Chanante started in September 2007 a new show with a similar format in the public channel La 2, called Muchachada Nui.
