    Lab Rats

Lab Rats is a 2008 BBC 2 situation comedy set in a university science laboratory starring Chris Addison, who co-wrote the series with Carl Cooper. The series was produced by regular collaborator Simon Nicholls and directed by Adam Tandy. Its executive producer was Armando Iannucci with whom Addison worked in The Thick of It.

Iannucci stated that the programme would be a traditional-style sitcom recorded in front of a live audience. He hinted that it will be a “very cartoony” show featuring “lots of giant snails”.

A pilot was announced as part of a series called “Behind Closed Doors” in Autumn 2006, but was never aired. A series of six episodes was broadcast in 2008, although the show was not recommissioned for further series.

Ben Elton: The Man from Auntie

Ben Elton: The Man from Auntie was a British television comedy series written and performed by Ben Elton. The title of the series was a play on words of the American spy series The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and “Auntie”, an informal name for the BBC.

The first series aired on BBC1 in 1990. A second series with a slightly different format was aired four years later in 1994.

The series was primarily based around Elton’s stand-up comedy routines, with his monologues interspersed with occasional filmed sketches and parodies, as well as soundbites from chinface “potato heads”. Another regular segment were “Farties Guides” to such tasks as catching a train or setting up home—Elton described “Farties” as “you and me”—ordinary people endeavouring to make it through life despite the efforts of entities such as the “body conspiracy” and the Ministry of Crap Design.

    Chelmsford 123

    Chelmsford 123

Chelmsford 123 is a British television situation comedy produced for Channel 4 by Hat Trick Productions. It ran for two series, of six and seven episodes, in 1988 and 1990.

The series was set in the British town of Chelmsford in the year AD 123, and concerned the power struggle between Roman governor Aulus Paulinus and the British chieftain, Badvoc. Britain is a miserable place, cold and wet – just the place to exile Aulus for accidentally insulting the Emperor’s horse, but also give him something useful to do. Aulus, probably a play on Aulus Platorius Nepos, the governor of Roman Britain between 122 and 125, was a rather delicate Roman, who was usually outwitted by the scheming Badvoc, who hadn’t had a haircut for twenty-five years. Many of the other regular “Hat Trick” actors, previously seen in shows such as Who Dares Wins, also appeared.

Both series are now available on 4 on Demand and SeeSaw.

Series 1 and 2 was released on DVD by Acorn Media UK on 15 September 2011.
