    Whites was a BBC sitcom, written by Oliver Lansley and Matt King, directed by David Kerr, and starring Alan Davies as the executive chef at a country house hotel. BBC Two gave the go ahead for the show to go into production in August 2009 with the first episode airing in September 2010. Whites aired for six episodes in 2010. On 1 March 2011 Davies announced that the BBC would not be renewing Whites for another series.

    Crocodile Shoes is a British 7-part television series made by the BBC and screened on BBC One in 1994.

    The series was written by and starred Jimmy Nail as a factory worker who becomes a country and western singer. The show’s eponymous theme tune “Crocodile Shoes” became a chart hit for Nail as did the album of the same name.

    A sequel, Crocodile Shoes II followed in 1996 and the theme tune “Country Boy” was a hit for Nail too.

    Paddy McAloon of Prefab Sprout supplied five original songs to the two series, all of them recorded by Jimmy Nail.

    Snuff Box

    Snuff Box is a BBC Three British dark comedy starring and written by Matt Berry and Rich Fulcher with additional material by Nick Gargano. It first aired on Monday 27 February 2006.

    Both actors use their real names for their main characters. Berry plays a hangman, and Fulcher his assistant. The majority of the programme is set in a “gentlemen’s club for hangmen”, although the show is also interspersed with sequences of sketches, often featuring different characters.

    Berry and Fulcher met whilst working together on another BBC Three comedy, The Mighty Boosh.

    The series 1 DVD was released on 16 June 2008. On 11 October 2011, Severin Films released the series on DVD with a bonus CD of music and other exclusive extra features in the North American market.

    Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace

    Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace is a British dark comedy show made for Channel 4 by Matthew Holness and Richard Ayoade. Following on from Garth Marenghi’s Netherhead, which won the 2001 Perrier Awards, the show revolves around fictional horror author Garth Marenghi and his publisher Dean Learner.

    Darkplace is presented as a lost classic: a television series produced in the 1980s, though never broadcast at the time. The presentation features commentary from many of the “original” cast, where characters such as “Marenghi” and “Learner” reflect on making the show. Darkplace parodies numerous aspects of ’80s low-budget television, including fashion, special effects, production gaffes, and music, as well as the widespread practice of including commentary tracks on DVD releases of old films and television shows.

    Darkplace was broadcast in a late-night timeslot, with very little advertising, and met with poor viewing figures. The show nonetheless built up a significant internet following, leading Channel 4 to swiftly repeat the series and produce a DVD release. It was also reported that Channel 4’s Film Four had asked Holness and Ayoade to write a script for a movie version of their programme.
