    The Sparticle Mystery

The Sparticle Mystery is a returning British science fiction television series written and created by Alison Hume and produced by Sparticles Productions for CBBC. The series follows a group of ten children within modern Britain, where an experiment at a Large Hadron Collider-like facility, named the Sparticle Project, goes wrong, sending all persons aged 15 and over into a parallel dimension at exactly 11:11am. The children travel to the Sparticle Project in attempt to bring back the adults and re-align the two dimensions.

The series, which had a budget of £3 million, was filmed in and around Bristol, with the final episode filmed at the ISIS neutron source particle accelerators, near Didcot. Series 2 has been extremely popular with over 2 million hits on BBC iPlayer to date.

The programme, which stars Annette Badland as Doomsday Dora/Holodora, has similar themes to both Lord of the Flies and the Gone series, and has many similarities to The Tribe. A second series of The Sparticle Mystery was filmed across Yorkshire in July- September 2012 for broadcast in 2013.

    Wizards vs Aliens

Wizards vs Aliens is a science fantasy television series aimed at children. It is produced by BBC Wales and FremantleMedia Enterprises at the newly opened BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff for CBBC and created by Russell T Davies and Phil Ford. The series focuses on 16-year-old wizard Tom Clarke and his scientist best friend Benjamin “Benny” Sherwood as they battle the forces of the alien Nekross, who have invaded Earth with the intent of consuming anything and anyone connected to magic. 26 episodes of the drama, spread over two years and two series, have been commissioned, although co-creator Russell T Davies says that it could continue beyond that, and could ‘easily run for ten years’. The first series, consisting of twelve 28-minute episodes, premiered in 2012.

In production terms, Wizards vs Aliens is, in effect, the replacement for The Sarah Jane Adventures, also created by Davies, which was ended due to the death of its lead actor Elisabeth Sladen. Other writers working on the show include Gareth Roberts, Joseph Lidster and Clayton Hickman. Originally announced as Aliens vs Wizards, the title was changed to “Wizards vs Aliens” on legal advice.
