    The Young Ones

The Young Ones was a British sitcom, broadcast in Great Britain from 1982 to 1984 in two six-part series. Shown on BBC2, it featured anarchic, offbeat humour which helped bring alternative comedy to television in the 1980s and made household names of its writers and performers. In 1985, it was shown on MTV, one of the first non-music television shows on the fledgling channel.

Filthy Rich & Catflap was a BBC sitcom produced in 1986 and broadcast early the next year. The series featured former The Young Ones stars Nigel Planer, Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson as its three title characters respectively. It was written by Ben Elton, and produced and directed by Paul Jackson, with film sequences directed by Ed Bye. The show’s music was written by Peter Brewis. Dangerous Brothers Present: World of Danger (1986)

Dangerous Brothers Present: World of Danger (1986)

The Dangerous Brothers was a stage and TV act by anarchic comedy duo Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson, performing respectively as “Richard Dangerous” and “Sir (or occasionally Lady) Adrian Dangerous”. Although originating before the show, they appeared in a number of brief sketches in the 1980s TV programme Saturday Live. Eventually being banned for being “too sexy and too violent”, they staged a protest by returning as ‘The Ben Elton Brothers’, and blowing up the car park at LWT Studios. One of the final sketches prepared for Saturday Live was entitled ‘Kinky Sex’. This fell foul of Channel 4 censors who banned it. The duo responded in the sketch Dangervision by apparently hijacking the programme and blowing up the wall on which the show’s logo was painted in graffiti art. The banned sketch, which by modern standards seems fairly tame, was finally released on a compilation video The Dangerous Brothers present: World of Danger.

    Bottom

Bottom is a British sitcom television series that originally aired on BBC2 between 1991 and 1995. It was written by and starring comic duo Adrian Edmondson and Rik Mayall as Richie and Eddie, two flatmates who live on the dole in Hammersmith, London. The program ran for three series, and was followed by five stage show tours across the United Kingdom between 1993 and 2003, and a feature film Guest House Paradiso. The show is noted for its chaotic, nihilistic humour and violent comedy slapstick.

In 2008, Bottom came in at number 45 in a poll to determine “Britain’s Best Sitcom” by the BBC. The show continues to be shown in the UK on Gold and Dave, and has been dubbed in other languages. In Spain the show is known as La pareja basura which aired on Canal+. The theme music was provided by The Bum Notes, a band that once featured Edmondson, and is a cover of “Last Night” by The Mar-Keys.

Plans were made in 2012 for a BBC spin-off series, Hooligan’s Island, featuring the Richie and Eddie characters from Bottom. However, that project was cancelled that October prior to production as Edmondson explained that he wished to pursue other interests.
