    2point4 children

2point4 children is a 1990s British sitcom that was created and written by Andrew Marshall. It follows the lives of the Porter family; an average family that is persistently faced with surreal situations and sheer bad luck.

The show was originally broadcast on BBC One from 1991 to 1999, and ran for eight series, ending in a special Millennium edition that would be the last due to the death of Gary Olsen, who died from cancer in 2000. The show is now repeated regularly in the UK on Gold, and in Australia on UKTV.

The title of the show refers to the once average size of a UK family. There are two children in the Porter family, however Andrew Marshall has indicated that the father, Ben, could be considered almost another child, making up the “point four”.

The show regularly picked up large audiences of up to 14 million in the early 1990s, with an average of between 6 – 9 million, the final episode was viewed by 9.03 million people.

In 1997 a remake of the show debuted in the Netherlands: ‘Kees & Co’ starring Simone Kleinsma.

    The Mary Whitehouse Experience

The Mary Whitehouse Experience was a British topical sketch comedy show produced by the BBC in association with Spitting Image Productions. It starred two comedy double acts – David Baddiel and Rob Newman, and also Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis, all of whom had graduated from Cambridge University. It was broadcast on both radio and television in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The show was named after Mary Whitehouse, a prominent campaigner against what she saw as a decline in television standards and public morality. She became the target of mockery in the UK for her attacks on series such as Till Death Us Do Part and Doctor Who. The BBC feared Whitehouse would initiate litigation for the use of her name in the show’s title, and for a period the alternative title The William Rees-Mogg Experience was considered.

    The Ren & Stimpy Show

The Ren & Stimpy Show, often simply referred to as Ren & Stimpy, is an American animated television series, created by Canadian animator John Kricfalusi. The show premiered on August 11, 1991, on Nickelodeon as part of its Nicktoons block along with Rugrats and Doug. The series focuses on the titular characters: Ren Höek, an emotionally unstable chihuahua, and Stimpson J. Cat, a good-natured, dimwitted cat. The show ran for five seasons on the network. The show has received critical acclaim and developed a cult following during and after its run, while some critics credit it for leading the way for satirical animated shows like Beavis and Butt-head and South Park, and playing a significant role in television animation. Throughout its run, The Ren & Stimpy Show was controversial for its off-color humor, sexual innuendo, and violence, each of which contributed to the production staff’s altercations with Nickelodeon’s Standards and Practices department. A spin-off for adult audiences, Ren & Stimpy “Adult Party Cartoon”, aired in 2003 on Spike, but was cancelled soon after its debut.
